Never Fear For Mother's Near

©Delores J. Knowles 2008 -- A mating pair of Sandhill Cranes (Grus Canadensis) has made our pond out back their home for the past three years. Although they allow me to photograph their offspring, they are always within reach. This chick is three weeks old. He had just taken a drink of water and had his head tilted back to swallow. They will stay as a family unit until the yougster is about nine months old. At about that point, he begins to fly off exploring on his own for longer and longer periods of time. Photographed in Lake County, Florida.
