©Delores J. Knowles 2008 -- Beauty is not the sole domain of the exotic bird. The Pekin Duck (Anas domesticus) is the common white duck that is found on farms and in almost every city park. Donald Duck of cartoon fame and the AFLAC Duck from TV commercials are two famous examples. They are descendants of the Mallards. The first Pekins were introduced into the United States and Great Britain in 1873 and is today the most popular duck used for egg and meat production. This lovey lady was photographed just as the sun was coming up at the edge of Lake Harris in Lake County, Florida.
