The Sunflower

The sunflower originated in America's Great Plains. The plant was grown and harvested by Native Americans from the Pacific to the Atlantic. French explorers were introduced to the plant by the Windot or Huron people who lived and cultivated it along the eastern shore of the Great Lake that bears their name in what is now Ontario, Canada.
