The music from the youth's headphones was turned up so loud that the author heard chirping tones that seemed as distant as a passing alien space craft. The white light of the hot dog stand glared at the ocean reflections and his foot became tangled in seaweed. The scene about him radiated energy and light and strength for the first time in many years. He bought a soft drink, sat on the sand, watched the waves roll in and out and in and out and in and out and decided not to kill himself after all. He watched the sunset instead.
