Self explanatory really.... Another quick painting (about 5-6 hours) detailing some young things on a summer morning. I've never really looked at light and shadow before so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I think this painting was influenced by Edward Hopper - last year I practically kidnapped his book of paintings from my uni library and even though I've long since returned it - I think he (and maybe Toulouse-Lautrec) was definitely on my mind when I was mapping this image out. The window above the girl's head is not finished - I was trying to do sky and leaves and stuff but I was a tad too eager and thus it's a mess - I'll wait for it to dry before I attempt it again. As always I've mixed the real with the unreal - the guy is based on a model friend and the girl I stole from a 60s hippy book - except I took a few liberties with her state of dress. The view from the window next to the guy is my actual view from my bedroom window.
