Dormition Abbey (3)

The spacious circular prayer hall of the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem is adorned with colourful wall mosaics depicting events from Christian and Benedictine history. High up in the Byzantine style apse is a mosaic picture of Mary and the infant Jesus. Below it is a mosaic inscription in Latin of the verse, Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and all shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).
