In March/April I had a group show at the APT in Deptford, London. The theme for the exhibition was memory and stream of time. For this painting I wanted to encorporate that and the Deptford area as I've grown up in the Rotherhithe/Deptford area and I really wanted the local residents to interact with it. This canvas is one of the largest painting I have ever done - it's 94cm x 142cm - and it took me two weeks to paint - which was a record and seemed a lifetime. Also I tackled quite a lot of demons - busy street scene, buildings, and the dreaded market stalls. For prep work I took my dodgy camera phone down to deptford market and took some shots of the area - but because I went in the evening after work and after the market was closed therefore there wasn't many people around. For people I looked at a lot of old magazines such as 'dazed' & 'ID' and encorporated them into the scene. I'm really pleased with how it came out and I had a lot of positive reviews from the public who came to look at it.
