Art squared was started by a group of artists who wanted to encourage other artists to create collectible editions in a 4" X 4" format. Most of these artists wanted to be able to sell to affordable art to collectors, but didn't believe in selling the standard 2.5" X 3.5" size of artist trading cards (as ATCs are meant to be traded, not sold).
