The need to design more creatures for the calendar was evident from the start. I like monsters, but I don't really draw a whole lot of them. One concept I decided I could use is beautifying creatures people don't really like. Something insectile seemed appropriate. The choice came down to spiders or wasps. In the end, I went for the wasp, although I may come back to the spiders t some point. Despite a rather nasty reputation for causing pain, wasps can be pretty little things. I tried to capture a sense of a three sectional body. Head, thorax and abdomen, separated by thin joints.
