whatever Nate said is constructive, but you've captured the cuteness

I like your picture Cheryl. Nate made some good suggestions. shading is always a problem for me too. I tend to have a light hand also. Keep up the good work

Cheryl may I offor a constructive critique? This portriat is about half way done. First thing the darkest part of the eye is the pupil, it needs to be black right now it's a gray. The hair on her bangs is comign along but the rest of it needs more pencil lines. I gradual build up is what works best it may take hundreds of strokes to get hair to look natural on paper. Over all you need for VALUE, which means your lights need to be lighter and your darks need to be darker, there should be a balance of each, but each drawing should have both. Double check the anatomy on top of her head, it looks a little off on the right side.. Make her shirt stand out more by giving a dark value and adding folds. If you dont allready use graphite blenders get some, there really cheap and there just bits of paper rolled to a piont. Dont take all that the wrong way, I'm only trying to help you get better. Every art class I ever took we crituiqed all our work everyday and thats the only way that I got better, is by hearing what other people saw that I did'nt. Once you think your finished with a piece, set it down for a few days then come back to it with fresh eyes, you'll allways find something you can improve. Hope this helps

Artist Reply: I definantely appreciate the critique... the only reason her hair looks thin is because she was 11 months old and she didn't have a whole lotta hair to comb down in the front for bangs, as I did this drawing from a photo.... http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j70/twizteddrumnuttie/KIDS/6e5a8826.jpg is the image I used if you'd like to look further... yes, I def. need to work on this drawing a little harder, I think I just got in a little bit of a hurry, and will have to go back to it... I really, really, appreciate the critique, though and not being like everyone else and telling me it looks good if there is still something wrong with it... thanks. :-)
