First Trip of the Season to Summit

As the heaviest snow pack in many years melts away, more trails are being opened up...a month late. More roads have cleared in the last 2 weeks, but many trails are still unaccessable. When we heard the road to Summit Lake was open, we had to be there. The hike was very enjoyable, the avalanche lilies were everywhere. Just before reaching the lake we ran into snow, 3 ft. deep in some places and ice still on the lake. What was I thinking, I was wearing my KEENS, a summer hiking shoe that you can get wet...not great for snow. It was one of those "high clouds" days so we were lucky enough to see Mt. Rainier. I kind of like the "white on white." This is one of my favorite places to see the mountain...
