Peace Debris

What can one say when 2500 human beings are lost--to a lost cause? What is the price of these lies? And while the cost of war is dear to all their families and losses, and the debris of war is obvious to hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, what is the "debris of peace"? It's hard to say, or know, since we haven't seen much of it for a very long time.... © 1990, Michael Cook, oil on paper, 20 x 32" (51 x 81cm), collection of the artist.

I love this work. So many reasons why! Colour is rich, the sky lively, almost twinkling with spirits!!!Super composition and great textural effects!

Artist Reply: Thanks so much, Lucia. Yes, a sky almost twinkling with spirits--I like that. It's a rather "minimal" composition, but I enjoy its subtlety. Very perceptive of you!

Wonderful artwork, Michael. It really is peaceful - your artwork - calm for as far as the eye can see. Congratulations on creating this majestic scene.

Excellent work, Michael,!!! and meaingful image to go with your questions and thoughts...

Artist Reply: Thanks, Christina. I think this painting is somewhat of a "sleeper" in that I feel there's more to the imagery than may be apparent at first glance. And it's one I like a lot, personally. Maybe I should get off the soapbox, get a life--or just get a blog! :) But really, this isn't only about ideas entirely either... I just like to have some thoughts in mind to write about some of them, but think the colors and imagery bear a closer look, just as a piece of art.
