The Old Green Gate, North Cornwall

I found this old gate somewhere in a field in North Cornwall. I can't remember exactly where as I photographed and sketched it, but didn't write down its exact location. I remember the area seemed deserted and the gate not much used and this watercolour attempts to capture those impressions. Please note: Depending on the setting of your monitor, the colours may appear slightly different from those of the original painting. Also you must appreciate that it is impossible to convey all the subtleties of texture, tone and hue of the original work in a digital photograph. This original watercolour has been sold (unmounted and unframed). If you are interested in a similar painting as a commission, please get in touch with me.

Needs warmer hues in the foreground-blues in distance

Good use of counterchange to show the gate against the lighter background, John!
