Ave Maria Grotto, Cullman

Ave Maria Grotto was the project of a Benedictine monk, Joseph Zoettel. Working from picture postcards, he made 125 highly detailed buildings, mostly Catholic churches and other Catholic buildings, and buildings of the Holy Land, out of concrete, decorated with seashells, marbles, and bits from costume jewelry. The perspective on most buildings is distorted, and the monk had no idea what the back side of the buildings looked like. This scene is of one of the hillsides. © Pat Goltz Thank you for your comments. I greatly appreciate them!
