Approx. 7" x 11", ink on paper. © Ann Morash 2004. One of my favorite pieces, this ornamental design features the moral of the story from Quiller-Couch's translation of Cinderella: Better than wealth or art, Jewels or a painted face, It is when a natural heart Inhabits its natural place And beats at a natural pace. This illumination combines the text with an elaborate Celtic-style peacock, and Italian Renaissance 'whitevine' design.
