Coming of Age - Grey Sindy Me

copyright C.A.Thomson 2005 This was part of my installation piece based on 'Coming of Age' for my end of year exhibition this year. The piece was highly symbolic and this part shows a self portrait or myself with the body of a Sindy/Barbie doll with masses of grey hair. It is about being ostracised but its not as obvious as you may think, it has a double personal meaning. Painted in acrylics onto a wardrobe door.

an eternity of beaut, how beautiful, u said symbolic, but symbolic for what?

Artist Reply: Thankyou, it's symbolic of being ostracised for being different and not conforming, but also growing up and becoming proud of this. It represents a story from my childhood where me and a friend used to not want to play with one of our dolls because she was ugly and had grey hair and then how later in life I experience similar attitudes for being different, and now how i've moved on from this. Thanks for taking an interest! glad you like it! xCharlotte
