Tuscan Sunflowers

Fractured stained glass has been applied to a wood panel to create this unusual mosaic wall art...Each piece made by this artist is an original work of art....and is titled...signed and dated....by Cyd Charessia....The art of mosaics stems back to over 4,000 years ago. The Greeks in the 4th century B.C. raised mosaics to a higher form with precise geometrical patterns...In 200 B.C. they started using small pieces and fragments of glass and other materials to give extra detail and a range of color...This form is called "tessarae"...Many wall mosaics with pieces of fractured glass gave vivid colors and reflected light. In the 6th century a Byzantium form of special glass tessarae was developed where the art seemed to move in different light settings as you moved around them...A design or picture (scene) where small pieces of glass or other materials were set into concrete grout... There was an artisan in Spain Antoni Gaudi 1852-1926 in Barcelona who produced unique mosaics...Example the mosaics he produced in Guell Park in Barcelona...He combined aesthetics and practicality in a form of mosaics called "trencadis"...where broken coloured bottles...plates and other fragments where used...Dali and Picasso were inspired by this style after seeing his work...and actually built the basis of their art from his work...Cyd Charessia has rekindled an interest in the old master artisan's style of mosaics...The elaborate images they created were beautiful...It truly was...A lost art...The artist uses only her own templates and designs. There are no pre-fab patterns used in the construction of her work. This is a one of a kind piece of stained glass art. Individual pieces of glass have been hand polished to achieve the optimum luster. There is also a different grouting technique employed in the design of this piece...The glass has been laid on a white pine panel, 24"x24"....with mahoghany veneer and brass foil edging. When physically viewed these pieces are stunning...It is very hard to capture the full measure of these stained glass mosaics with the camera...This image has been sold.
