Cool artwork! According to the Scandinavian legends, about this creature, this fella hypnotized the ladies with his music so that they followed him into the waters (mostly lakes or rivers) and drowned! As such they became and/or were called "Brides of the Nokken/Water-sprite". Your painting sure feels evocative with regards to these legends. I may add that (also according to the legends) there were ways to safeguard oneself against the Nokken/water-sprite if you weren´t in the mood for drowning; if you had an iron-cross, or any piece of iron (basically), then you would be kinda safe! Anyway; good idea and execution!

Artist Reply: Thank you, I'm so glad to read your comment, I've had rarely comments from persons who knew about the Nøkken ! in fact, this legend is exactly what has been inspiring me....fascinating me... I've started asking myself if those "Brides" were happy or scared...after all, what we define as a curse (disappearing from the world of mortals and living eternally in the reign of the waters between "supernatural beings") might be such for those who are very attached to their mortal life, while for some who didn't feel like they completely belonged to this mortal world, and who had no attachments like a love or children, it might -who knows?- have been like an initiation to supernatural secrets.... they might have left their body but at the same time have discovered a new world of wonder and magic where they maybe belonged even more?
