Tide's Out!

The people of White Rock, British Columbia are proud of their beach. Though the sand is a heavy grey, the beach has a charming view over the bay and is great for sunsets, particularly in winter when the sun sets over the sea. This photo was taken at low tide in February, just as the sun was over the horizon. Minolta 801si alpha, 24-85mm lens, Fujichrome Velvia, no filter, no colour manipulation. Copyright Peter Skov.

What a fantastically beautiful capture of sand - I like the angle - superb artistic photo!

the composition is beautiful! I like it.

Artist Reply: With a shot like this I am always wondering to what degree should the lines be turned. I am always turning the camera a little more this way and that until I feel comfortable with the angle. In my Just for Fun folder you can find a manipulated version of this same image.

Sand patterns wonderfully portrayed! A continuous source of fascination for me, too!

I snapped a similar photo the other day in Boundry bay. Nice work!

Artist Reply: Low light and twilight are great with sand patterns or wet mud. Boundry Bay is a great spot for this stuff too.
