Wild Skys Over Dunedin. Ninth in my New Zealand series. One evening, my family decided they wanted to play badminton at a sporting complex just off Saint Clair Beach. Being the great sports enthusiast that I am, after five minutes I was outside looking for something more interesting to do. I wandered along the John Wilson Ocean Drive above Saint Kilda Beach in the car, absolutely marvelling at the glorius fury that the wind and weather gods were hurling at the Peninsula. Eventually I parked on Lawyers Head, a spectacular vantage point in these conditions. The carpark on a cliffed buttress allowed a panoramic view up and down the southern coastline of the Otago Peninsula and back across the city of Dunedin. The first painting in this series "Dunedin Coast", was the view from here looking Northeast along the Peninsula across the golf course. Turning 180 degrees and looking the other way down the coast I was confronted with this amazing sight. Well, I had to paint that too! So back in my Perth studio I have created this from the various reference photos I took at the time. 2005 Oil on Canvas 20" x 15" Although this one is sold, others in the series are still available.

You did an excellent job of capturing the colours in this scene. I can totally imagine being there on the beach and seeing this.
