Refael Dabush - Roots 1

Upper photo, one of the most significant men,in the Libya Jewish community during the 19 century ,Rabbi Refael Dabush, the borther of my father's grandfather. In the bottom photo,U can see My father's grandparents, near to Refael's photo. The original photos, were much smaller ,taken in Lybia before 1900,Brought to Israel by my father's grandmother, who took those photos to enlarge them in Tel - Aviv 1936.In the 80's one member of the family ,gave my father these 3 photos totally ruined. My father gave those photos to a special photographer to try restore them,He did his best ,I guess...and those 3 photos hannged in my parents wall,up their stairs. The other decorative items in the photos, are only for decoration purpose,NOT for any kind of traditional ceremonies. My parents R very modern people...not religious . Hello, and shana tova! My name is Yehudit Gerzi. My maiden name is Meghnagi, and my nona-grand mother, was a Dabush. She was the grand daughter of Ha Rav Raphael Dabush-the man on the right. Your photos are beautiful. I have the same photo hanging on my wall and i am so truly happy to see thee on yours! I am from England origionally (my father moved there when he was 16 and brought the rest of his family over). I live in Israel now. I have just got in touch with a Leora-was dabush, also from Toronto and now lives here too. One day i hope we can all meet. thank you for sharing such beautiful photos- wishing you all the best, Yehudit.

Artist Reply: Hello Yehudit.. The brother of Rabbi Refael- Rabbi, Chaim Dabush, was my father grandfather. If i remember well, you, or someone from your family connected with me years ago. My father, Aaron Dabush, actually did not know of that part of the family live in England. We know the family from Italy, but then It was the other side of my father family.. My nona, who was, Yole dabush, from Nachum family. And of course we know those, who live in Israrel.. But then i lately found some more Dabush, that are not familar to my father.. SO, I don't know how big was the DABUSH Family, and not sure all were relatives. Anyway.. it seems we are relatives, since there's connection to Rabbi Refael z"l.. Not sure if you believe in the spirit.. BUT, It is more then strange.. The other day, while I replied to Leora... about this photo, my keyboard was on Hebrew, while i wanted to type English... and so, I typed "NER" in hebrew... and then again... i thought i was typing English.. but it was still typing Hebrew.. and i got "NER"... And that's not coincidence, because if you speak Hebrew.. You know NER, Means Candle. I felt that i have to light a candle in his memory... i believe it was a spiritual experience... Who know, perhaps we meet one day.. Wishing you the best.. Thanks for visiting.

You must be very proud to have these images. It is great to have such a heritage

Artist Reply: Hello again, Jhon.. Indeed I'm very proud to be part of this family. These people were very important, and significant in Tripoli Lybia. Rabi Rafael was a dayan, judge (religious) . They were kind of responsible to the Jewish community life during their time. There's even written material about Rabi Rafael in internet. ( perhaps not in English)... Again thank you!
