In 1621, Massasoit (chief of the Wampanoag people) was invited to a special “thanksgiving assembly" given by Governor Bradford of the new pilgrim settlers, after surviving their 1st year of toil in the new land. But when the wrestling & shooting contests went so well afterwards, Massasoit & his braves didn’t want to leave -- so that 1621 thanksgiving lasted for 3 days
