This is a painting of the archangel Gabriel just after God sends him to Daniel. Daniel prayed and fasted for 21 days before the angel appeared. Gabriel took so long because he wrestled with the prince of Persia until the archangel Michael came to fight for him. An ethereal scene features an angelic figure with expansive white wings against a cosmic backdrop. Light radiates downward, creating a celestial atmosphere filled with darkness and star-like specks.
