Akedah means “binding” in Hebrew & refers to the binding of Isaac for a sacrifice by his father Abraham in Genesis chapter 22. This is where the angel of the Lord tells Abraham to offer a ram instead of his son at the very last moment. This “Akedah” has become a supreme example of self-sacrifice in obedience to God’s will & it becomes the symbol of Jewish martyrdom. Other stories follow in the very next book of “Exodus” about the Hebrew exit out of Egypt, 10 commandments & of Moses (considered the writer of the 1st 5 books of the Bible.
