This intimate look at an iconic animal was inspired by findings that wolves not only howl to communicate, but also to express affection. Wolves sing when their leader or a close friend leaves them. The more grooming, playing and quality time they share, the more they howl when parting. This is a more soulful side of an impressive animal rarely seen in the wild. In this family setting, the adult’s black tipped fur rises above two small pups lying beside her. They rest with heads almost touching. On the picture’s left, the adult wolf faces the viewer with her chin on one paw. One cub lies beside her and twists an ear back toward the second pup as he raises his head in a howl. From the expression in their sparkling eyes to the beautiful markings that outline their face, this hand-created original art celebrates the allure of these impressive, yet mysterious, largest canines in the world.
