Aztec Moon Goddess

Based on ancient Aztec and Mayan history and statuary, this is my semi-abstract version of Coyolxauhqui (“Koy-ol-shauw-kee”), the Aztec moon goddess. I have clothed her in a white 2-piece outfit adorned with typical Aztec geometric designs with an imposing black and gold headpiece composed of isosceles triangles, seated on the silvery crescent moon and surrounded with vertical stripes of dark red, burnished yellow-gold and soft turquoise with geometric Aztec/Mayan designs. This piece is the fifth and final in my series of “Cultural Archetypes”, all in this 10” x 30” elongated format.
