"The Little Match Girl" by Anderson's fairytales is one of my favorite stories. I created the scene where the little girl is forced to sell matches in the cold of winter without a coat or shoes and uses them to warm herself. She sees other families cozy in their homes celebrating Christmas in the flames and imagines being a part of the festivities. At one point, she sees her deceased Grandmother, who was the only person who truly loved her, so she keeps lighting matches to see her longer. The Grandmother was there to take her Granddaughter to heaven, and the girl was found frozen in the snow in the morning with a gentle smile. It's a sad story, but I enjoyed designing this artwork.
