This scene only exists in the 3rd chapter of John’s gospel. Nicodemus is introduced as a man of the Pharisees who came at night to visit Jesus & became confused when Jesus told him this, “Verily, verily I say to you except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus would continue by saying “verily, verily I say to you, unless one is born of water & of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” He would later say to Nicodemus - “are you the teacher of Israel & do not understand these things? If I told you earthly things & you do not believe, how shall you believe if I tell you heavenly things?”
