Völuspá

In old norse tradition a völva or vala, was a seeress of great power and wisdom. She would travel from settlement to settlement, helping to resolve disputes, give counsel to high and low and fortell the future. She would also help to keep the ancient tales of gods and giants alive. Völuspá (The Seeress' Vision) is part of the Poetic Edda and tells of the creation of the universe, of how the Aesir came to power and of the Golden Age of the gods. It also tells of Ragnarök - the great battle between the gods and the powers of chaos, such as the giants and the monstrous sons of Loki the traitor.
