The boat transfer

In the first half of the last century, when there were even fewer bridges, a crossing was used in the smaller residential communities to allow residents to cross rivers and canals. The small flat-bottomed boats, under the management of a skipper, were usually propelled by prying. This was done by means of a straight oar, at the back of the boat, in the form of a reclining figure of eight to move rhythmically and the skippers were very skilled at this.
