It’s all about the eyes! This is Pola Negri (1897-1987), one of the first film stars during Hollywood’s “silent” and “golden” eras. With her seductive eyes and sultry looks, she was the female counterpart of Rudoph Valentino, filmdom’s first sex symbol, and in fact the two were romantically involved before his death in 1926. Born and raised in Poland of Slavic ancestry, Pola was the first European to be awarded a Hollywood contract, and she was one of the highest paid stars of her era.
