9 x 12 graphite pencil on Bristol Smooth paper. I’m not sure if she’ll ever see this but this is a portrait of the amazing masterful artist Kate Zambrano. For pencils, I’m using Pentel Graphgear 1000 0.5mm mechanical pencils. I’m building up my tones by making tiny overlapping circular motions with my pencil (I call these Ricky circles, lol) no blending tools are being used. I slowly build up the contrast by layering my graphite gradually, first 4H, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, and finally 4B. I personally feel I don’t need to go any darker than 4B. More to come soon!!!
