I've been documenting Leucistic white squirrels for a number of years now at Dana Point Harbor. Before there were only Brown Ground Squirrels then around mid 2000s I started to notice a kind of honey brown coloration , then mottled coloration and then white variety . Leucism (/'lu?s?z?m, -k?z-/) is a wide variety of conditions that result in the partial loss of pigmentation in an animal—causing white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales, or cuticles, but not the eyes. This is the first time I have seen a light brown more grayish body with a White Tail.
