Have you ever closed a car door on your thumb? Rory did in San Francisco after recording an album. Some big shots in suits wanted him to sign a bunch of contracts so he could break out into the American market. Rory dumped the tapes into a bin by way of response and told his brother/manager Dónal, "We have to start over." Never a sell-out to the music industry (and hence why none of his songs charted) Rory left his hotel room in irritation, jumped into a cab and proceeded to close his thumb up in the door. I imagine the ensuing scream sounded much like the ones in "Off the Handle". And there it is. My first time ever drawing a bandaged thumb.
