Crow Tit

I made this piece for an Arts for Wellbeing exhibition, where it was incredibly well received. It is a mixed media piece, acrylic paint and hand cut lino print collage on tissue paper, all on a 24"x30" canvas. It is inspired by Korean culture, there is a saying in Korea that someone who is trying too hard to fit in is a 'crow tit/baepsae/??'. I took this concept and thought about the restrictions and pressure to fit in that todays youth of Korea have to face. Often they deal with a suppression of their own individuality, for the sake of traditional values and upholding expectations. This piece deals with a subject who is accepting her status as a crow tit, and finding a balance of appreciation for her cultural expectations, whilst also being herself and decorating her body as she feels.
