She Wants Out

Ever feel trapped in your life? This is an unusual piece for me because I usually prefer to paint cheerful subjects. I was a bit depressed about my job and several other things going on in my life (a lot of little things were adding up). I felt like I just wanted to run away from my own life and start a new one somewhere else and have a new career in a new city. Of course such a big change would be scary and the fear of the unknown (for me anyway) outweighs any of life's small burdens that I'm currently experiencing. The woman in this painting represents anybody who "wants out", but feels unprepared or too afraid of the unknown to do so. She isn't dressed (unprepared), nor can she see what is outside of the cave she is in. She's on her knees, and not knowing quite what to do... I hope that others can relate to the meaning of this piece.
