Ooya

"Ooya", a beadwork inspired by the story of creation, is a name in Yoruba for comb: the white image in the middle of this work. It is used by the artist to symbolize the Spirit of God that brought about orderliness from chaos in the creation process. It depicts the Spirit of God disentangling or separating light (day) from darkness (night). It stands for the power that all entities depend upon for identity.
