Visited Panama, standing at the end of the old city is this gorgeous view or the New city. The contrast is so so surprising, as though you are in a another world!

I AM THE ANONYMOUS, GINGER. YES THE GOLDEN ALTAR THAT WAS WHITE WASHED AND TAKEN OFF SHORE UNTIL HENRY MORGAN & HIS CREW LEFT. IN A VERY UNASSUMING CHURCH NOW, DOWN FROM THE FLAT ARCH THAT STOOD SINCE 1673 & WAS THE REASON THE CANAL WAS BUILT IN PANAMA. THE FACT THAT THE ARCH WAS STILL STANDING SHOWED THAT EARTH QUAKES WERE OF NO CONSEQUENCE IN PANAMA. YES AFTER HUNDREDS OF YEARS THE FLAT ARCH FELL IN NOVEMBER 2003 BECAUSE THE SHAKING OF TRUCKS DRIVING IN THE FRENCH QUARTER. INCREDIBLE. I WAS BORN IN PANAMA CITY AND GREW UP ON THE CANAL ZONE. THE FIRST 20 YEARS OF MY LIFE WERE SPENT THERE LEARNING ALL ITS HISTORY AND EVERYTHING ELSE. :-)

Artist Reply: What a shame the arch fell. When we come done again will let you know so we can meet!! Thanks for all your great information.

ACTUALLY, GINGER, YOU ARE STANDING IN THE OLD FRENCH QUARTER THAT IS BEING BOUGHT BUILDING BY BUILDING AND BEING RESTORED. THAT BUILDING IN THE FOREGROUND USE TO BE THE UNION CLUB WHERE MY MOM & DAD WENT FOR DINNER & DANCING. DID YOU SEE OLD PANAMA THAT WAS DESTROYED BY PIRATE HENRY MORGAN AND HIS MEN IN 1671? THE FRENCH QUARTER WAS BUILT IN 1673; IT WAS A RELOCATION OF PANAMA CITY ACROSS THE BAY FROM THE ORIGINAL THAT HAS HAD LOTS OF EXCAVATION SHOWING IT TO BE FAR LARGER THAN WE ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. AS A CHILD MY FAMILY HAD PICNICS THERE IN THE OLD CATHEDRAL RUINS AND MY BROTHER & i PLAYED AMONGST THE RUINS AND THE LITTLE ARCH. GREAT PHOTO BTW

Artist Reply: Yes to all your questions, walked along the french quarter (a big New Orleans in its day, hope they repair). Yes to Old Panama saw where M. Noriega held for last fight, He died in May 2017 at 83! Yes, We saw the Golden church that Morgan tried to find. We were amazed by the work going on and hope to visit again soon. Please leave your name or email. I think Panama was probably one of the richest and most beautiful city in its hay day in the world! Unbelievable place to imagine how it was. A crime how the old city fell in disarray. The new city is gorgeous too!
