Consuming Embrace

Throughout my college career I have been using monsters, creatures and beasts to express human emotion, conditions and ideas. With this piece, I wanted to illustrate how I get so engrossed or "consumed" by the ideas/thoughts that I have before and while I create art. I'm using a creature that I created in college as the main symbol of this idea. This creature has taken many forms depending on the idea I need him for. He is called the Blackfisk Hund (octopus dog). He has been just a dog like beast for an anatomical project, an dragon like creature with multiple limbs with an elongated body, a creature that embodied a phobia, etc. This time, he is a celestial, ethereal creature who has trapped me in his bio-luminescent tongues. While it does seem that this being is just eating me for his meal; although not entirely inaccurate, it is more like I'm being embraced by his presence. I am being embraced by my idea, thought, or monster. It can be a freeing yet stifling, but not entirely bad. I hope you all enjoy! Please do not trace, use, or modify. Thank you. ©Alexandra Engelman/BeautifulBeasties
