This is Safia. She comes from Somalia and her name means ‘pure and sincere friend’. Her father worked for the Somali embassy and that’s why she arrived here at a fairly young age. I met her at university where she studied political science. We used to talk for hours. With her parents she still visited her homeland regularly. At that time she always dreamt of settling down there permanently in order to be able to help her fellow-countrymen. But a sudden occurrence changed her plans. She fell in love with a boy from around the corner and her parents are quite satisfied with it. She’s now committed to the integration of Muslim women in our society.
