What does the circle symbolize?

Artist Reply: I don't know what it is, but I found the circle carved on a rock at a shrine near my house. It reminds me of paintings of a circle by Yoshihara Jiro, a Japanese painter of the Gutai movement in the 60s. Thank you for your comments.
