The Alchemist

This image was created with BIC ball-point pen. The idea is mad scientist / meets futuristic chemist in a moment of pure evil genious. In fact if you listen closely you can hear his maniacal laughter. I do have a serious dark side, and from time to time I like to let it out with ink. Ink seems to be the best medium I have found to translate pure evil. Pastel colors are too bright to be effective, airbrush is too perfect and un-natural, and watercolor - forget it; but ink can capture the dark and imperfect nature of evil by showcasing the marriage between dark and light. The most interesting part of this piece is how the main character is somewhat like-able. You know he's evil, but some part of you wants to work in the lab with him! This is a great example of capturing expression and character using only posture and facial gestures. I hope you all enjoy.
