Blue Willow Siamese Cats

This is one of a set of acrylic paintings I did after completing my 'Blue Willow' commission of the little girl and her doll. I had mixed a large amount of paint to work with, and had a good bit left over so I decided to use it to have fun with ideas of my own. I've always been a fan of the 50's,60's,70's American Kitschy type art since I can remember. I find it so amusing that a lot of it has come back into style, and even frequently see reproductions of the owl jewelry I have that my grandmother had given me some time ago. I even have a little collection of siamese cat figures with the exaggerated long bodies and big eyes. I even have a 'tv lamp!' So, it only kinda seemed natural that I would do my own interpretation of this little chunk of fashionable culture. After working over a year and a half at a job which was highly repetitious, I found it odd that I would sit at home and be doing something that was once again highly repetitive, such as painting the Blue Willow pattern: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willow_pattern Perhaps it was the job that provided me with the attention span and patience to paint such patterns? The Blue Willow pattern was something I also grew up with in my home, so I have a fondness for it and experienced much joy in painting it (besides the interesting history and the fact that it tells a story). My mother always had Blue Willow dishes, and between her and I we still have a full set, hehe. Anyway, here is my acrylic on canvas painting. I'm quite pleased with it and I hope you are too.
