This is a 5" x 5" x 1" deep original oil painting of the tropical Alocasia, one of my favorite plants. It is painted on all sides, so can be hung without a frame. This piece features a segment of a photograph I took while visiting Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor. On a recent visit, I discovered that these plants have since been replaced, so I have captured a wisp of the ephemeral nature of plant life, which often leaves no mark upon the world save for a scattering of fossils.
