Nice one, Dave! Well, there's the verb: and there's the noun. I suspect there's a possibility that you had the noun in mind. But, if you believe the police dramas, there a lot of erroneous hunches which, hopefully, lead up blind allies---I like that expression---because the burden of proof must depend upon irrefutable evidence. But, honestly, what holds up in court these days is anyone's guess. Hope you are doing great. :)
