Alive and Well on the East Coast

I took this photograph recently, while I sat at the water's edge eating a piping hot and fresh flounder Reuben sandwich. It was just before a bad thunderstorm and I sat there peacefully, while the wind blew gently across the Intracoastal Waterway. I watched the lightning strike violently in the distance. Hugh, long bolts lit up the sky and headed straight for the ground. Across the water from where I sat, I quietly watched a dolphin glide gracefully in and out of the clean and clear water. This pelican patiently waited for fish from a deep sea fishing boat that had just pulled in from a long day at sea. It deeply saddens me to think of what is happening in the Gulf. I feel so badly for the people! Their way of life is being ruined more and more every day by the worse environmental catastrophe ever! But, I feel more for the innocent wildlife that has no control over man's stupidity and greed! It appears and hopefully, I am wrong, that it is only a matter of time, this pelican and the dolphin will soon feel the ill effects of the oil spill when it hits our beautiful beaches on east coast of Florida. We should ALL pray there will be an end very, very soon, as this disaster is affecting each and every one of us, in one way or another! But, it seems extremely bleak that there will be an end soon to this nightmare! I hope I am wrong! I pray for the beautiful pristine beaches on the east coast, but... my thoughts and prayers are with the people on the Gulf Coast, their wildlife, their marine life and their beautiful white sandy beaches! The drilling in the Gulf must STOP! But, first... something HAS to be done to stop the worse environmental disaster to ever hit our shores! There HAS to be a way to stop this atrocious and senseless tragedy! We NEED a miracle! It looks as though... a miracle is our only hope! PRAY FOR A MIRACLE, PLEASE!!! A miracle may be all we have now! We all would like to see the light at the end of the seemingly dark tunnel and soon! WE NEED A MIRACLE!!!

Hi Shannon, I write from England and share your horror at this terrible tragedy, this could happen anywhere, and fill all the oceans with total pollution, the end of the world as we know it, there has to be more research before any more drilling, more safety factors.. lets hope this can be capped very quickly and the mess to be cleaned as first priority..love your pictures too.. Geoff

Artist Reply: Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on my photos, Geoff. I really appreciate it a lot! We need a mircle in the Gulf and quickly! I hear that there is a tropical depression that has formed in western Caribbean. They say it may be heading straight towards the oil spill. What a mess that will be!

WONDERFUL SHOT, SHANNON. SUCH A POIGNANT REMINDER OF THIS HORRIBLE TRAGEDY. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE KEPT FROM REACHING THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA AND THE WEST COAST TOO. HORRIBLE.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Sharon, for taking the time to view and comment on my photos! I trying appreciate it! Yes, lets hope that the oil does not reach the west coast of Florida either! I have lived my whole life on the coast and even though I love the mountains, the ocean is a huge part of who I am! This tragedy deeply saddens me and I pray something will be done about it and quickly!

Our thoughts are with you at this terrible time, in a travesty not only for those who have to endure it...but to the world at large who lose those beautiful shorelines and wildlife with you. Hope our feathered friend gets through it! Ropati from Australia.

Artist Reply: What a wonderful and sincere thing to say, Ropati! It's extremely frustrating, to say the least and heartbreaking and so very devastating to see a seagull drenched in oil. It breaks my heart and I have to literally turn away from the television because it sickens me! Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! We need all the prayers we can get now! Please pray for a miracle!
