In memory of Steve Langford.

Part of my upcoming solo show "GEMS" February 8-14, 2010
at the Academy of Lifelong Learning (University of DE)

It would do great as a poster as well!

------------

I love to challenge myself to work on a very small collage.
It's wonderful to create an artwork where the viewer is wondering:
"What did she paint and what did she glue on?"

Patterns & Shapes
When I plan a collage I try to think how to express its mood.
Establishing a pattern in a collage can be done by including pieces that repeat shapes.
Repeated shapes, tones and colors all set up visual rhythms that create a sense of movement and encourage the eye to "travel" over the piece.
The diagonal shape gives a strong tonal contrast.
The blue is adding a desired cold feel to this musical piece.
To get some harmony and soul in this cold color I added area's of "warm" copper, which balances this collage out. (Color wheel theory!)

Materials used: Vintage sheet music, book paper, oil paint,
Matte Medium (my archival glue), heavy gloss gel, modeling paste.
