Deliciously good capture! Almost looks like the whole thing is carved from wood, but the 'mane' was probably dried grasses?
Artist Reply: Yes, this African mask is a wood carving, with dried grass used as a lion's mane. I believe the mask was carved at least 100 years ago. I found it in a museum collection. Thanks so much for checking out my series of masks, Anna Marie. Cher~
