Magnificent Roman Amphitheater at Arles

The upper photo shows the expanse of this amphitheater, used for gladiatorial events. It was built between the 1st and 2nd centuries. It seats 20,000 to 30,000 spectators and is still used today for festivals and bullfights. The lower photo is a closeup of the arches.
