laird was totally out of line here! Photography IS indeed an art form. It takes a lot of thought and preparation as well as an artistic eye. I love the tattered flag. Of course we aren't supposed to allow them to become tattered without retiring them properly. But as a whole, this picture is just fine. Could use a nice backround, but you cannot create the sky on a day like that. So you did a great job!

Beautiful even lighting and texture. Even a common subject can be rendered so that it takes on emotional and artistic flair. That IS art. Don't let the cynics discourage you.

everyone knows I am true blue red white and blue! Dont let anyone get you down any photo of our American flag is good unless its being burned. Try it again though get creative with your angles try taking a photo at the base of the pole looking straight up, or maybe a photo of just a portion of the flag, or try the flags reflection on the flag pole, just some ideas for you, go against the grain, have fun, and ride it till the wheels fall off!

Amy just remeber all the great photographer started somewhere. There is no right or wrong in art. Your vision no matter what it is, is art! This is a great piece. Keep practicing and experimenting with different things! And over all just have fun!! : )

Might as well have photographed grass...common imagery, including this tattered flag do not apply when it comes to art. I can appreciate "Americanism" but not as for artwork/photography. IMHO
